serious glitching (64 bit)

Postby doublebogey » Wed Jun 27, 2012 9:24 pm

I'm using an 8 core intel mac pro OS 10.6.8.
Bidule Standalone Mac OS X x64 0.9724.
16 midi channels of Kontakt 4 and a lot of crackling going on.
No rewire support for 64 bit so I'm using a M-AUDIO fast track for the audio interface.
It's not the interface though because the crackling is still there when monitoring through my main audio interface which is the MOTU 2408 mk3.

Should I go back to 32 bit?

thanks,

What is the dsp% shown in Bidule?

Does the same layout shows no glitching in 32 bit?

Hi, and thanks for the reply.
I'm out of town at the moment but I will check those things when I return and report back.

I haven't tried it in 32 bit. But here's exactly what it's doing to me in 64 bit:
With one instance of Kontakt 4 in loads everything in perfectly and everything sounds fine.
After maybe a half hour of not playing anything thru Bidule it either crackles real bad or no sound at all.
Even though the levels inside Bidule going out to the Fast Track say it's fine. There's nothing getting to my Fast Track.
So at that point if I quit Bidule and load my instance again everything works fine but for only a short while.

Is there something I should look at in Preferences??

thanks,

for the crackling:
This looks like either everything that was loaded into RAM by Kontakt has been paged to disk and is being brought back
(how much RAM do you have? what is the amount of loaded samples in memory?)
A way to test that theory would be to either reload the samples in Kontakt or load a new instrument(s) and
see if the problem goes away the same as in relaunching Bidule.

no sound:
Does you computer sleeps during that half hour of no activity? If yes, that means that the USB
connection to the Fast Track is dropped.

I have 12 gig of RAM.
I tried loading just Omnisphere into a new instance and it distorted very badly and then went silent.

I'm going to try the (32 bit) version and see what happens.
