Bidule 64bit, Mac OS, Audio FIle Recorder - does not write f

Postby brunodegazio » Tue Jul 05, 2011 9:06 am

Bidule-x64 0.9713 has a problem writing files with the Audio File Recorder. It allows to setup the file, "start", etc. and after clicking "start" goes through a realistic simulation of updating the running time and file size but does not actually write the file to disk.

Please excuse if this isn't the correct forum - I couldn't see a forum specifically for the 64bit beta version.

While the time display is simply the elapsed time since the recording started, the file size is what normally should be the actual file size, I've just quickly checked with both WAV (16bit) and AIFF (32bit float) stereo recordings and their appear fine in Finder. Is there any specific channel count/bit depth you're using?

It's just regular old 44.1 khz, stereo.

I'm wondering if it might be an interaction with Apple Compressor, which is running in the background chewing on a video file in the enclosing folder. Perhaps Compressor locks the folder? If so, Bidule gives no indication of any file error...

I'll try another test by recording the audio file on the desktop...

LATER:

After setting the location (Desktop) and filename, I get an error from Bidule on clicking "Start": - "Cannot open the file for writing." However, this was fixed by checking "Create new files for each record." (I don't remember having to do that in the 32-bit version.) I can now record a file to the desktop, but...
after recording the brief test file, the "File" button in the Audio Recorder window no longer works. It simply doesn't respond to a click. The only way to get it to work again is to quit and re-launch Bidule.

I'll test further later today, after Compressor has finished it's job.

it seems you need to specify the file extension now, the cocoa file save doesn't by itself give you the choice of format, there is specific code going with that selection box and the can't write empty filename would fit with a problem in there.

I'll need to have a further look but right now the easy solution would be to manually add .wav or .aiff to the filename.
