Crystal Crash?

Postby jersmi » Fri Apr 20, 2012 12:16 am

Two crashes within 5 mins. Is Crystal synth crashing Bidule? Too bad if so, I had been excited to discover it could play soundfonts. Wondering if maybe a problem with more than one instance playing the same soundfont (since that's when crashes started).

Do you get that with all sf2? or a specific one? Looks like either a bug in Crystal with a specific modulation or something wrong in the sf2 file.

I _think_ DLSMusicDevice can use sf2, you need to put the files into either /Library/Audio/Sounds/Banks/ or <your user>/Library/Audio/Sounds/Banks/ for the bank to show into the dropdown in the UI. Otherwise, it might be time to revisit bundling ARIA into Bidule...

Thanks, Seb. Since upgrading to Lion I have only installed this one soundfont for testing, the Jeux organ. I have not used any soundfonts in a while. Most I have are quite old, but I thought I would see if I could get them to work. I have used Jeux a lot in the past. I wonder if it is buggy, too. The DLSMusicDevice shows Jeux in the pulldown, but currently won't allow selecting another soundfont besides the quicktime music synthesizer. Apparently this is a known issue.

So I'm over sound fonts, or at least trying to use something free to play them. DLSMusicDevice has always been unstable. I thought Crystal would be cool because of all the modulation possibilities, but it, too, is a bit outdated at this point. I have Aria Player/GPO, I'll stick with that. Will Aria Player play sf2's?

Not by itself (or at least not without the currently unreleased SF2toSFZ converter...)
