Midi device reset?

Postby CinningBao » Sat May 05, 2012 11:19 am

My trusty old emagic MT4 has started behaving strangely on Bidule - the MidiIn1 doesn't seem to pass anything from the hardware to the Bidule MidiIn device. MidiIn2 works fine, and the device is fine as it works in Live/Logic, but other strange behaviour includes:

- when the device is removed MidiIn2 goes red but MidiIn1 doesn't
- when Bidule is started and the device isn't plugged in, it is still shown in my default layout as active

Is there a way to tell Live to forget about a device as it seems to have got it's knickers in a bit of a twist over of my MT4?

cheers :)

edit-
I mean is there a way to tell _Bidule_ to forget about midi devices? There's no reason why it should not be seeing messages from this particular midi port.

Could you check while hovering over body of MidiIn1 if it's actually the MT4 port and not something else which is renamed? You can also tell by looking into the bidule.log file.

Thanks Seb - yes, it's definitely what it says it is; an Emagic MT4.

That's weird, having the incorrect MIDI device that is actually renamed to the expected one is one of the only reason I can think of right now that would cause this. Could you send me the bidule.log file after a session where the Port 1 in the layout but no MIDI coming through issue occurs?

Interesting. Is there a way of resetting/deleting this device from Bidule's view?
Or do I misunderstand the problem?

cheers

By default (if the never subsitute devices option is off), Bidule will keep the Audio/MIDI Device index from the enumeration when loading
a file, _however_ it shouldn't renamed it to the replaced device name (there was a bug at some point where a saved file would cause this).

The quickest way to fix would be to enable the option but that will give you red audio/MIDI if the device is not there (typically
when swapping files between computers/platforms/users).

I think this problem has been resolved by me opening my eyes a tiny bit wider to see that the IAC device was, in fact, the renamed MT4Port1 device.

A simple delete, a little MidiDevice menu traversing, add the MT4Port1 device and it's there as it should be. It may have been the save issue you spoke of - the device was in my default layout which I haven't changed in many years!

Thanks :)
