assign LFO / envelope to SID filter

Postby segerfalk » Wed Jan 19, 2011 3:51 pm

Is this possible? After reading the manual and trying out the demo, the only way I could somehow get the intended effect was with the wave sequencer. Wouldn't it be quite simple to add a CC out for the LFO:s and the (pitch)envelope?

If this isn't possible I'm afraid it is a deal breaker to me, which would be a shame since it sounds very nice. I really like the filter which sounds much like one of my old machines. As an oldskool sid composer (Blood Money etc..) I got very interested by this, and really would like to use it for newer stuff.

Thanks for the filter part.
The Filter can indeed be modulated only by CCs (either using your host's automation, or inside using the wave sequencer).
The pitch can be modulated by EGs and LFOs which are built in though

For 2.0 i have a much improved SID emu coming up :)
hardsync/ringmod is abscent right now, due to the synth's voice construction.

2.0 has a low level cycle accurate emu, ill run Blood Money in it as a test,
lots of cool effects in there! good job.

Thanks

Yeah, the ringmod/sync from neighbouring channels is an essential part for many sounds.
That sounds sweet! How far away is 2.0? Will it be a free upgrade?

2.0 is still a good while down the road, it will be a small upgrade fee for current users i guess,
we are not yet decided. the current model uses my SFZ engine to drive SID voices and you cant have voices
drive other voices while in 2.0 i add dedicated emulator modules that are designed and tested to be able to play SID files, then i add layers of "MIDI->regiters" to them. Its a different aproach. Both will be available in there.
Of course you cant scale the 3 voice logic of SID much since 1->2 2->3 and 3->1 synch voices... unless you do n->1 ... so much desing questions. :)

Ok, but couldnt you implement lfo and envelope to cc before the 2.0 release? Doesnt seem like too much work :)

People use the automation tool in their DAW/Tracker (like Renoise) for more flexibility with the filter.
To resolve the issue 'Cleanly' would need to add a full modulation matrix, which is something that would need quite a bit of
work.
