RMS/peak bidule

Postby jersmi » Sat Aug 04, 2012 2:16 pm

Could we get something built-in?
This is a request for something like the RMS Buddy, but instead of audio through output, this would have outputs for each type of average value.

Funny, this. I've just spent an age building a very cheap and nasty RMS detector because envelope detection was either too ripply or too slow for the particular thingy I was trying to do (even with Hilbert).

So yeah, +1 on elegant signal detection and measurement! :)

I had posted bidules for these some time back, and have plugin versions as well.

Ah, yes, forgot about that, or rather I was confused and lost the version with the slope and y intercept:

It would be great if you could repost to make sure the versions I have did not get stupidly messed up in some way that is keeping them from working as expected.

Sorry, were these the plugins you mentioned not having mac versions for?

The "Zmeter" plugin I have is released on both mac and windows:

Image

It has 8 inputs and 8 outputs (audio) and agrees 100% with RMSBuddy. You can reset one or all channels at once. -infinity is displayed as -110 dB.

If you are looking for an output pin or parameter that has the peak or RMS values on it this doesn't have it, however (could be added though).

Look in the plugins folder of the stereo to surround package here:

or here:

As far as doing RMS and peak with bidules, the post I was referring to is here:

http://www.plogue.com/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... RMS#p21812

The plugin (in the post above this one) measures the RMS and peak values since the beginning of processing until stopped or reset. In my layouts I have the audio file player "play" parameter linked to the processing mode of "Zemter" so it measures the RMS and Peak values during the time the player is playing.

If what you want is an RMS or peak value for some recent window or time the bidule versions (link in this post) have a millisecond time setting for that.

Hope that's clear.

Zmeter, cool.
Yes, I built the bidules from your pics, these are the ones I have been trying to use. Good to know they work reliably for you and are the basis for the zmeter. That means it's probably user error on my end. Something needs to click and it has not for me. I tried a few mods, tried inserting sample and hold for "windowing" with a trigger clock, things like this. maybe trying again with the line function (slope and y-intercept) will help clear things up. For example, how could any of these be used in an auto gain control setup, param linked to sliders so the sliders move when gain control takes over? i'm still chasing the automation with the pluggo feedback network's gain control, or imagine the behringer bcf2000's sliders automated to control feedback. possible?

Well I made the attached AGC based on that. This has two different RMS detectors in it, so you'll want to remove one.
