Airtunes Bidule

Postby Doktorfuture » Tue Nov 29, 2011 6:15 pm

What would be great would be an AirTunes bidule. If we could set up several airtunes objects it would be fantastic. I'd love to play my bidules on my hifi's. Or better yet, stream to several different AirTunes systems.

Also multi-channel (dolby?) encoder would enable wireless transport from a laptop to surround systems.

Did they finally opened it on OS X or is it still reverse engineering hackery?

Apple licenses it as a component (Airplay it's called now). Otherwise it's reverse engineering like Rogue Amoeba does with Airfoil.

I haven't followed it that much but my understanding was:

- you can send to any Airplay from an app on iOS if the app is coded accordingly
- only iTunes can send on OS X (without using AirFoil or something similar)
- you can license from Apple to build hardware available as Airplay destination.

Bottom line, there is currently no way for an app to send to Airplay on OS X using
any API...
