OneShotSampler

Postby DaveDraper » Wed Jan 25, 2012 8:13 am

I have a very old delay/sampler (Arion DDS-4) which I used a lot in its record/sample mode for glitchy live sampling/playback. At last I've cobbled together a little group that does a similar job!

Five seconds' worth of audio buffer, a little envelope thingy and a smoother to minimise clicks, hit a note trigger & it starts recording a new sample from the beginning whilst playing back the last one. Resample before the last one plays out, & it leaves a bit behind, until it gets overwritten; lots of glitchy fun!

I have a DDS-4 too - I bought it new some time in the late 80's and it's been gigged remorselessly. Four seconds of digital sampling was a pretty big deal back then! 8)

I even had an argument with the guy in the shop when I bought it - he didn't believe such a thing existed!

Just a coupla refinements to this one; it's only mono I know, & sits in a bidule with an alternative straight through for the guitar signal, so I kept it simple.
GUI control for sample/delay length (with friendlier units than #samples!) & a one shot/delay toggle too (just like the DDS-4!). Max delay 5 secs.
Enjoy.

Oh ok, here's a stereo one, with the ability to toggle between oneshot & delay, and (synchronously if you like) manually set delay length or tap tempo (only one tap required here - I don't do that MIDI sync thing, though I do use MIDI control; keep it simple! -ish!). Oh, I added feedback too, though a simple pitch control (variable instead of constant to control accumulator increment) didn't sound too great, so I'll leave that to someone else for now.
Thanks to Jersmi too, for that looper, which helped me work out a few things!

Along with my completely redesigned softstep controller this has had a bit of a tinkering too. Rather crude playback pitch control, but I quite like its effect. Longer buffer possible, wide pitch shift range (too wide?), more could be done, possibly turn it into some kind of looper.......!
